Alpena Green Infrastructure Visioning Program

October 13, 2022: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Huron Pines and the City of Alpena are seeking public input on potential designs for capturing and filtering stormwater runoff to protect the water quality of Lake Huron.

Alpena area residents are invited to participate in a public vote for new green stormwater infrastructure, which will help to preserve and protect the Thunder Bay River and Lake Huron watersheds. Click here to learn more about green stormwater infrastructure. This is the culmination of a partnership between Huron Pines, the City of Alpena, and Drummond Carpenter, supported by funding from the Michigan Coastal Management Program. The goal of the project is to protect water health in and around the City of Alpena by implementing nature based solutions for stormwater management.

Topics of discussion:

  • Overall plan for the program
  • Green infrastructure basics
  • Charrette activity to collect input and inform design decisions
  • Leadership development activity
  • Tools and support to share what you learned
  • Introduction to Alpena stormwater storymap and online voting process
