North Point Nature Preserve Grand Opening
June 10: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
In 2017 The Nature Conservancy acquired this stunning property on the North Point Peninsula. Here you’ll find 1,384 acres of cedar forests, nearly 4 miles of dune and Lake Huron shoreline, unique wetlands, and meadows that harbor diverse plants and wildlife. At the end of 2022, Huron Pines became the permanent landowner here, and we will protect and manage the area in perpetuity. In celebration of this milestone, we hope the community will join Huron Pines and our partners at Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and The Nature Conservancy to celebrate the Grand Opening of the North Point Nature Preserve. Huron Pines is coordinating guided tours throughout the day for you to get out and experience this special place. The tours will lead people through two stops where they will learn about the ecological, historical and recreational features of North Point Nature Preserve and why it’s so important to protect.
Buses will be running from the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center to the preserve throughout the day. Choose your own adventure: come for a guided tour, bring a chair to relax on the beach or take some time for exploration. The day is yours – just don’t miss the last bus!
Restrooms will be available on site, along with some light refreshments. Dress for the weather, and bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, and anything you may want for a day at the preserve. Email julia@huronpines.org with any questions.
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. It is a priority for Huron Pines to ensure that our communications and programming are available and accessible to everyone. Please contact maddie@huronpines.org if you have any questions about accessibility or believe barriers remain.
We recognize that accessibility is not always possible in every area of our work. Our efforts are ongoing. Through a commitment to continued learning and understanding, we will strengthen our awareness of the barriers and inequities that exist at the individual and community levels, in order to advance more equitable opportunities to experience the outdoors in our region.
