Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Frog-bit Removal Workday

June 24, 2022: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join Huron Pines and the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary in removing invasive European frog-bit from the waters around Island Park in Alpena.

European frog-bit is a free-floating invasive aquatic plant that grows in colonies and forms dense mats on the water’s surface. This event is part of an ongoing effort to manage the invasive species and control its spread within the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary and Duck Park to preserve recreation access and wildlife habitat.

Learn more about invasive European frog-bit.

The workday will begin at 9am and run until 1pm. There will be various tasks for volunteers like, hand pulling frog-bit along the shoreline of Island Park and the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary or helping transport frog-bit for disposal. Work gloves, waders, tall rubber boots or any sort of protective water gear is recommended. Volunteers will be provided rakes and buckets.
