Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Frog-bit Removal Workday
June 24: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
European frog-bit, an aquatic invasive plant species, can quickly form dense mats on the water’s surface, choking out native vegetation and obstructing the movement of waterfowl, fish and paddle craft. Regular frog-bit removal can help keep the growth of the plant at bay. This volunteer event will begin at 9am and will offer multiple shifts and tasks for volunteers. Volunteers will be provided rakes and buckets and directed to focus areas to pull frog-bit. Waders or any sort of protective water gear is recommended.
More details coming soon.
This event is supported in part by the Michigan Invasive Species Grant program and Consumers Energy Foundation.
This is part of the Protect Wild Places event series established to empower Michigan communities to support the land and water to restore 5,000 acres of wildlife habitat and recreational land, and 150 miles of waterways and Great Lakes shoreline.
