Join Huron Pines as we launch our new preserve monitoring program. We need 10-20 volunteers to join a dedicated group that will monitor Huron Pines’ preserves on a weekly basis to help collect important information. This information will help us track restoration efforts, rare plants and animals, and will guide our future management plans.
Protecting land is a powerful way to help communities better handle the local effects of climate change. We work to protect and conserve the natural areas that keep both people and the environment healthy. Having many different types of plants and animals (diversity) is the key to helping nature survive changing conditions.
As a volunteer, you'll observe seasonal changes, look for sensitive species, and help spot invasive plants and animals using the iNaturalist app on your phone. Since this is our first year running the program, you'll help us gather baseline information that we'll use for years to come.
This virtual information session will give interested participants an idea of what the monitoring program will look like and what to expect if you participate. On June 14th we will have in person training at Hubbard Lake Nature Preserve that will train participants on how to collect data.
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. It is a priority for Huron Pines to ensure that our communications and programming are available and accessible to everyone. Please contact maddie@huronpines.org if you have any questions about accessibility or believe barriers remain.
We recognize that accessibility is not always possible in every area of our work. Our efforts are ongoing. Through a commitment to continued learning and understanding, we will strengthen our awareness of the barriers and inequities that exist at the individual and community levels, in order to advance more equitable opportunities to experience the outdoors in our region.
