Join us to learn about the shoreline community science monitoring opportunities we are offering this year. During this session, we will provide detailed information to help you assess if these programs aligns with your interests and to understand the expectations, responsibilities, and time commitment involved. Following this information session, an in-person onboarding training will be held on April 20th.
Coast Watchers
Coast Watchers are part of a dedicated group that monitors sections of the Lake Huron shoreline on a weekly basis from May to October to gather data and help Huron Pines, our partners and local leaders make decisions in managing these important places.
Piping Plover Monitors
We are looking to expand the network of piping plover monitors during the nesting season. Volunteers will learn how to identify piping plovers and report sightings to the Great Lakes Piping Plover Conservation Team. There is no prior experience or supplies needed. We are hoping to get more eyes on the ground along any part of the Lake Huron Coastline to contribute to data collection. Join this information session to learn what it takes to look for piping plovers. After the session, a training video and training manual will be sent out to interested participants to prepare them for the in-person training on April 20th. On the 20th, Stephanie Schubel from the Great Lakes Piping Plover Conservation team will be presenting and leading the training. Priority locations (based on previous nesting locations): Tawas, Cheboygan, Oscoda
Registration is required.
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. It is a priority for Huron Pines to ensure that our communications and programming are available and accessible to everyone. Please contact maddie@huronpines.org if you have any questions about accessibility or believe barriers remain.
We recognize that accessibility is not always possible in every area of our work. Our efforts are ongoing. Through a commitment to continued learning and understanding, we will strengthen our awareness of the barriers and inequities that exist at the individual and community levels, in order to advance more equitable opportunities to experience the outdoors in our region.
